The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 1.1.18; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

तत्रास्याः क्लेशघ्नत्वम् —
क्लेशास् तु पापं तद्-बीजम् अविद्या चेति ते त्रिधा ॥१.१.१८॥

tatrāsyāḥ kleśaghnatvam —
kleśās tu pāpaṃ tad-bījam avidyā ceti te tridhā
||1.1.18||

English translation

“Now we will discuss the first characteristic, its ability to destroy suffering. Suffering is threefold: sinful reaction, the seed of sin and ignorance.”
