यया तु धर्म-कामार्थान् धृत्या धारयतेऽर्जुन ।
प्रसङ्गेन फलाकाङ्क्षी धृतिः सा पार्थ राजसी ॥ ३४ ॥

yayā tu dharma-kāmārthān dhṛtyā dhārayate'rjuna |
prasaṅgena phalākāṅkṣī dhṛtiḥ sā pārtha rājasī
|| 34 ||

yayā–which; tu–but; dharma-kāma-arthān–the activities of dharma, sense gratification and economic development; dhṛtyā–by determining; dhārayate–one sustains; arjuna–O Arjuna; prasaṅgena–through strong attachment; phala-ākāṅkṣī–hankers for the results; dhṛtiḥ–determination; –that; pārtha–O son of Pṛthā; rājasī–governed by the quality of passion.

O Arjuna, son of Pṛthā, the determination whereby a person adheres to religious practices, activities of sense pleasure, and the endeavours to ameliorate his economic condition, being driven by an intense attachment to enjoy the results of his work, is governed by the quality of passion.
