Text 11.47 [Pariṇāma]

75. Pariṇāma

परिणामः क्रियार्थश् चेद् आरोप्यो विषयात्मना ॥ ११.११cd ॥ [९१८]

pariṇāmaḥ kriyārthaś ced āropyo viṣayātmanā || 11.11cd ||[1]

kiñcit-kāryopayogitayā nibaddhasyāropyamāṇasya svatas tad-upa-yogitvāsambhavād yadi viṣaya-rūpatāpatter apekṣā syāt tarhi pariṇāmaḥ.

If it is required that the upamāna (standard of comparison) assume the nature of the upameya, since the upamāna cannot possibly carry out the action attributed to itself, that is pariṇāma.

Commentary:

Ruyyaka introduced pariṇāma in poetical theory.
