Text 11.38 [Pūrva-rūpa]

71. Pūrva-rūpa

पुनः स्व-गुण-सम्प्राप्तिः पूर्व-रूपम् उदीर्यते ॥ ११.९ab ॥

punaḥ sva-guṇa-samprāptiḥ[1] pūrva-rūpam udīryate || 11.9ab ||

When a thing reobtains its own quality, that is pūrva-rūpa (previous form).

Commentary:

The ornaments from here to the end are taken from Jayadeva’s Candrāloka. In Kuvalayānanda, Appaya Dīkṣita copied Jayadeva’s methodology. Among these ornaments, Paṇḍita-rāja Jagannātha only accepts praharṣaṇa, pariṇāma, and anujñā. The pūrva-rūpa ornament is a form of the tad-guṇa ornament (taking a quality of another) (10.236).
