समासोक्तौ तुल्य-विशेषण-वशात् प्रतीतस्यापि परार्थस्याप्रस्तुतप्रशांसायां व्यञ्जनयाधिगतस्य प्रस्तुतस्य च शब्देन पुनर् अभिधानं पुनर्-उक्तता. यथा,

samāsoktau tulya-viśeṣaṇa-vaśāt pratītasyāpi parārthasyāprastutapraśāṃsāyāṃ vyañjanayādhigatasya prastutasya ca śabdena punar abhidhānaṃ punar-uktatā. yathā,

The fault called punar-ukta (redundancy) (7.88) occurs in samāsokti when there is a direct mention, with a word, of the aprastuta although the aprastuta was perceived by the force of significant modifiers, and in aprastuta-praśaṃsā when there is a direct mention of the prastuta, which was understood by means of Suggestiveness. This is an example of a faulty construction in aprastuta-praśaṃsā,

kalāvatā niśāṃ nītvā jāgareṇa kumudvatī |
mīlan-netrotpalā nidrāṃ prātaḥ prāpa vadhūr iva ||

Having passed the night with the moon by staying awake, at dawn the lotus pond, where the night lotuses in the form of eyes were closing, attained sleep like a young woman did.

atra vadhūr ivety apuṣṭārtham. evam anyac cohanīyam.

Here the words “like a young woman” do not nourish the sense (since the lotus pond represents the young woman). This is the fault called apuṣṭa (irrelevant). Other instances can be inferred in this way.
