yat-pāda-pāṃśur[1] bahu-janma-kṛcchrato dhṛtātmabhir yogibhir apy alabhyaḥ |
sa eva yad-dṛg-viṣayaḥ svayaṃ sthitaḥ kiṃ varṇyate diṣṭam aho vrajaukasām ||

atra vrajaukasaḥ kiṃ tapas tepur iti praśno gamyate. na caitad anumānam, sādhya-sādhanayor nirdeśa eva tasyāṅgīkārāt. nāpi kāvya-liṅgam, uttarasya praśnaṃ praty ajanakatvāt.
The question that is understood is: “Did the inhabitants of Vraja undergo austerity?” There is no anumāna in the verse because that is acknowledged only when there is a mention of a sādhya (the idea to be proved) and a sādhana (logical explanation). Uttara is not kāvya-liṅga either, because the answer does not generate the question.
