35. Paryāya

एकं क्रमेणानेकस्मिन्

ekaṃ krameṇānekasmin

paryāyo’nyas tato’nyathā ||10.117ab||

ekam—one [thing]; krameṇa—sequentially; anekasmin—in more than one [place]; paryāyaḥ—the ornament called paryāya; anyaḥ—the other [subvariety of paryāya]; tataḥ—than that; anyathā—in a way other.

If one thing is in more than one place in succession, that is paryāya (sequence). Another variety occurs in the other way.

ekaṃ vastu cet krameṇānekasmin bhavati kriyate vā tadaikaḥ paryāyaḥ yadi tv anekam ekasmiṃs tadānya ity arthaḥ.

If one thing is in more than one place in succession or is made to be situated in more than one place in succession, that is paryāya. The other paryāya is: Many things are in the same place in succession or are made to be located in the same place in succession.
