Text 10.140 [Sahokti]
27. Sahokti
सा सहोक्तिः सहार्थस्य बलाद् एकं द्वि-वाचकम् ॥ १०.११२cd ॥
sā sahoktiḥ sahārthasya balād ekaṃ dvi-vācakam || 10.112cd ||
sā—that; saha-uktiḥ—the ornament called sahokti (“a mention of saha”); saha-arthasya—of the sense of saha (with); balāt—by the force; ekam—one [word]; dvi-vācakam—it expresses two things.
When one word is doubly expressive, by the force of the sense of saha (with), that is sahokti (conjoined statement).
ekānvaya-bodhakam api sahārtha-balād ubhayor avagamakaṃ cet sahoktiḥ.
If one word is syntactically connected with one thing yet it causes the understanding of a syntactical connection with another thing as well, by the force of the sense of saha, that is sahokti.
