धनिनोऽपि निरुन्मादा युवानोऽपि न चञ्चलाः ।
प्रभवोऽप्य् अनहङ्काराः कियन्तः सन्ति भूतले ॥

dhanino'pi nirunmādā yuvāno'pi na cañcalāḥ |
prabhavo'py anahaṅkārāḥ kiyantaḥ santi bhūtale ||

dhaninaḥrich; api—although; nirunmādāḥ—devoid of arrogant pride; yuvānaḥ—young; api—although; na—not; cañcalāḥ—fickle; prabhavaḥ—powerful; api—although; anahaṅkārāḥ—devoid of false ego; kiyantaḥ—some [persons]; santi—are; bhū-tale—on the surface of the Earth.

Few people on Earth do not have overweening pride although they are rich, are not restless although they are young, and have no false ego although they are highly influential. (adapted from Sāhitya-darpaṇa 10.67) atra hetur nopāttaḥ. Here the cause is not stated.

Commentary:

Paṇḍita-rāja Jagannātha gives this example:

upaniṣadaḥ paripītā gītāpi ca hanta mati-pathaṃ nītā |
tad api na hā vidhu-vadanā mānasa-sadanād bahir yāti ||

“The Upaniṣads were scrutinized and the Gītā was brought to the path of the intelligence, but alas her moon face still does not leave my mind” (Rasa-gaṅgādhara, KM p. 437).
