तद्-भेदान् आह,
tad-bhedān āha,
He mentions the varieties of aprastuta-praśaṃsā,
kārye nimitte sāmānye viśeṣe prastute sati |
tad-anyasya vacas tulye tulyasyeti ca pañcadhā ||10.99||
kārye—which is an effect; nimitte—which is a cause; sāmānye—which is a generality; viśeṣe—which is a particular; prastute sati—when there is a prastuta; tat-anyasya—of the other; vacaḥ—a word (the mention); tulye—[when the prastuta] is a similar thing; tulyasya—of a similar thing; iti—in this way; ca—and; pañca-dhā—fivefold.
Aprastuta-praśaṃsā has five varieties: (1) An effect is understood from its cause, (2) A cause is understood from its effect, (3) A generality is understood from a particular case, (4) A particular case is understood from a generality, and (5) One thing is understood from a similar thing.
