गुणायत्तानाम् अपि रचनादीनां क्वचिद् विपर्ययः स्याद् इत्य् आह,

guṇāyattānām api racanādīnāṃ kvacid viparyayaḥ syād ity āha,

Now he says: Although the phonetic combinations and so on are founded upon a guṇa, sometimes a deviation occurs:

vaktṛ-vācya-prabandhānām aucityena kvacit kvacit | racanā-vṛtti-varṇānām anyathātvam apīṣyate ||8.77|| vaktṛ—of the speaker; vācya—of the literal meanings; prabandhānām—or of the lenghty composition; aucityena—owing to the suitability; kvacit—sometimes; kvacit—sometimes; racanā—of the construction; vṛtti—of the compounding; varṇānām—or of the phonemes; anyathātvam—the being otherwise (not being based on a guṇa); api—even; iṣyate—is desired.

Depending on the suitability of either the speaker, the literal meaning of the text, or the literary work, sometimes the phonetic combinations, the style of compounding, and the phonemes occur in a different way (by not being based on a guṇa in the technical sense).[1]

kvacid vācya-prabandhānapekṣayā vaktr-aucityād eva, kvacid vaktṛ-prabandhānapekṣayā vācyaucityād eva, kvacit tu vaktṛ-vācyānapekṣayā prabandhaucityād eva, racanādyā bhavantīty arthaḥ. krameṇodāharaṇam.

Sometimes the phonetic combinations, the style compounding and the phonemes exist only because of the suitability of the speaker, irrespective of the literal sense and of the literary work; sometimes they take place only because of the suitability of the literal sense, irrespective of the speaker and of the literary work; and sometimes they occur only because of the suitability of the literary work, irrespective of the speaker and of the literal sense. Examples are shown in order.

Commentary:

According to Govinda Ṭhakkura, the purport of this section is that it is not a universal rule that a construction of ojas guṇa is out of place when mādhurya-guṇa occurs, and vice versa: na caivaṃ mādhuryādāv uddhatādayo racanādyāḥ sarvatra viruddhāḥ syur iti vācyam (Kāvya-pradīpa 8.77).
