कस्यचिद् उत्कर्षम् उपकर्षं वा प्रोच्य पश्चात् तद्-अन्यथोक्तिर् व्याहतत्वम्. यथा, चित्रे न चन्द्रिका रम्या यथा त्वन्-नेत्रचन्द्रिका. अत्र यस्य हरेश् चन्द्रिका नानन्द-हेतुः, स एव चित्रायाश् चन्द्रिकात्वम् आरोपयतीति व्याहतोऽर्थः.

kasyacid utkarṣam upakarṣaṃ vā procya paścāt tad-anyathoktir vyāhatatvam. yathā, citre na candrikā ramyā yathā tvan-netracandrikā. atra yasya hareś candrikā nānanda-hetuḥ, sa eva citrāyāś candrikātvam āropayatīti vyāhato'rthaḥ.

(3) The fault called vyāhata (inconsistent) is this sort of inconsistency: After stating either the eminence or the inferiority of something, a subsequent mention is made in a different way. For example: “Hey amazing woman, moonlight is not as delightful as the moonlight from your eyes.” Here the sense is inconsistent because on one hand it is said that Hari thinks that moonlight is not a cause of pleasure, and on the other it is said that He superimposes moonlight unto the amazing woman.
