अथ ध्वनि-गुणी-भूत-व्यङ्ग्य-मिश्रणम् आह,
atha dhvani-guṇī-bhūta-vyaṅgya-miśraṇam āha,
Now he discourses upon the mix of a first-rate implied sense and a second-rate implied sense:
sālaṅkārair dhvanes taiś ca yogaḥ saṃsṛṣṭi-saṅkaraiḥ ||5.47ab|| sa-alaṅkāraiḥ—[of them] which are accompanied with a literary ornament; dhvaneḥ—of a first-rate implied sense; taiḥ—with them (the varieties of a second-rate implied sense); ca—and; yogaḥ—a commixture; saṃsṛṣṭi-saṅkaraiḥ—as a saṃsṛṣṭi and as saṅkaras.
As a saṃsṛṣṭi and as saṅkaras, a first-rate implied sense is conjoined with them as well as with those accompanied with an ornament.
alaṅkārātmakair alaṅkāra-sahitaiś ca tair guṇī-bhūta-vyaṅgyaiḥ saha dhvaner yogaḥ. sa ca saṃsṛṣṭyā saṅkareṇa ca tri-rūpeṇa bodhyaḥ.
There is a commixture of a first-rate implied sense either with a second-rate implied sense which is an ornament or with a second-rate implied sense which is accompanied with an ornament. And that commixture is to be understood either as a saṅkara (interdependent mix of dhvanis), which has three varieties (4.97), or as a saṃsṛṣṭi (mutually independent mix of dhvanis).
