किमि॒च्छन्ती॑ स॒रमा॒ प्रेदमा॑नड्दू॒रे ह्यध्वा॒ जगु॑रिः परा॒चैः । कास्मेहि॑ति॒: का परि॑तक्म्यासीत्क॒थं र॒साया॑ अतर॒: पयां॑सि ॥
किमिच्छन्ती सरमा प्रेदमानड्दूरे ह्यध्वा जगुरिः पराचैः । कास्मेहितिः का परितक्म्यासीत्कथं रसाया अतरः पयांसि ॥
kim icchantī saramā predam ānaḍ dūre hy adhvā jaguriḥ parācaiḥ | kāsmehitiḥ kā paritakmyāsīt kathaṃ rasāyā ataraḥ payāṃsi ||

English translation:

“(The Paṇis). With what intention has Saramā come to this plural ce? Verily the way is long and difficultto be traversed by the person vering. What is the motive of your coming to us? What sort of wandering was yours?How have you crossed the waters of the Rasā?”

Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya

Legend: The cows of Bṛhaspati had been stolen by the Paṇis,the followers of the Asura Vala. At Bṛhaspati's instrumental nce, Indra sent Saramā in search of the cattle. She havingcrossed a large river arrived at Vala's stronghold and discovered the cattle. The Paṇis trying to make friendswith her, the dialogue contained in this sūkta then ensued. rasā: the river of the firmament
