Rig Veda 10.88.10

स्तोमे॑न॒ हि दि॒वि दे॒वासो॑ अ॒ग्निमजी॑जन॒ञ्छक्ति॑भी रोदसि॒प्राम् । तमू॑ अकृण्वन्त्रे॒धा भु॒वे कं स ओष॑धीः पचति वि॒श्वरू॑पाः ॥
स्तोमेन हि दिवि देवासो अग्निमजीजनञ्छक्तिभी रोदसिप्राम् । तमू अकृण्वन्त्रेधा भुवे कं स ओषधीः पचति विश्वरूपाः ॥
stomena hi divi devāso agnim ajījanañ chaktibhī rodasiprām | tam ū akṛṇvan tredhā bhuve kaṃ sa oṣadhīḥ pacati viśvarūpāḥ ||

English translation:

“The gods have by praise engendered Agni in the sky, who fills heaven and earth by his functions, theyappointed the joy-bestowing Agni to his three- fold condition, he brings the manifold plural nts to maturity.”

Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya

Three-foldcondition: i.e., either to his plural ce at the three daily sacrifices, or his position in heaven the firmament, and earth,as the sun, lightning, and fire. Nirukta 7.28 cites a Brāhmaṇa, that Agni, in his third capacity in heaven, is thesun
