नवो॑नवो भवति॒ जाय॑मा॒नोऽह्नां॑ के॒तुरु॒षसा॑मे॒त्यग्र॑म् । भा॒गं दे॒वेभ्यो॒ वि द॑धात्या॒यन्प्र च॒न्द्रमा॑स्तिरते दी॒र्घमायु॑: ॥
नवोनवो भवति जायमानोऽह्नां केतुरुषसामेत्यग्रम् । भागं देवेभ्यो वि दधात्यायन्प्र चन्द्रमास्तिरते दीर्घमायुः ॥
navo-navo bhavati jāyamāno 'hnāṃ ketur uṣasām ety agram | bhāgaṃ devebhyo vi dadhāty āyan pra candramās tirate dīrgham āyuḥ ||
English translation:
“New every day (the moon) is born; the manifester of days he goes on front of the Dawns; hedistributes their portion to the gods as he goes; the moon protracts a long existence.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
The first half othe verse isaddressed to the sun; but, the moon is the manifester of days in regulating the time of tithis (lunar days)
