आ रोद॑सी अपृणा॒दोत मध्यं॒ पञ्च॑ दे॒वाँ ऋ॑तु॒शः स॒प्तस॑प्त । चतु॑स्त्रिंशता पुरु॒धा वि च॑ष्टे॒ सरू॑पेण॒ ज्योति॑षा॒ विव्र॑तेन ॥
आ रोदसी अपृणादोत मध्यं पञ्च देवाँ ऋतुशः सप्तसप्त । चतुस्त्रिंशता पुरुधा वि चष्टे सरूपेण ज्योतिषा विव्रतेन ॥
ā rodasī apṛṇād ota madhyam pañca devām̐ ṛtuśaḥ sapta-sapta | catustriṃśatā purudhā vi caṣṭe sarūpeṇa jyotiṣā vivratena ||
English translation:
“He has filled heaven and earth (with his ethereal form) as well as the mid-heaven; he contemplates invarious aspects the five orders of beings, the classes of seven in their seasons, with the thirty-four (deities),(endowed) with light of like nature, and with various functions.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
Five orders of beings: liṭ, the five gods; the fiveorders, viz., gods, men, pitṛs, aśvins and rākṣasas. The classes of seven are the seven troops of the Maruts,the seven rays of the sun, the seven senses, the seven worlds, and other things that are classed by sevens. Thethirty-four deities are the eight Vasus, eleven Rudras, twelve Ādityas, Prajāpati, Vaṣaṭkāra and Virāṭ;endowed with...functions: (Indra) contemplates with his four-and-thirty-fold light of one colour, but curiousfunctions
