औ॒र्व॒भृ॒गु॒वच्छुचि॑मप्नवान॒वदा हु॑वे । अ॒ग्निं स॑मु॒द्रवा॑ससम् ॥
और्वभृगुवच्छुचिमप्नवानवदा हुवे । अग्निं समुद्रवाससम् ॥
aurvabhṛguvac chucim apnavānavad ā huve | agniṃ samudravāsasam ||
English translation:
“Like Aurva Bhṛgu and like Apanvān, I invoke the pure Agni, dwelling in the midst of the sea.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
AurvaBhṛgu: Aurva, the descendant of Bhṛgu (sometimes he is called the son, sometimes the grandson, andsometimes only the descendant); Aurva became the submarine fire; or, aurvabhṛgu = like Aurva and Bhṛgu(dvandva compound);
Apnavāna: mentioned as one of the Bhṛgus in RV 4.7.1; dwelling in the midst of the sea:samudravāsasam = samudramadhyavartinām, clothed or hidden by the sea
