Rig Veda 8.81.5

Sanskrit text [Accents, Plain, Transliterated]:

प्र स्तो॑ष॒दुप॑ गासिष॒च्छ्रव॒त्साम॑ गी॒यमा॑नम् । अ॒भि राध॑सा जुगुरत् ॥
प्र स्तोषदुप गासिषच्छ्रवत्साम गीयमानम् । अभि राधसा जुगुरत् ॥
pra stoṣad upa gāsiṣac chravat sāma gīyamānam | abhi rādhasā jugurat ||

English translation:

“May (Indra) sing the prelude, may he sing the accompaniment, may he listen to our hymn as it ischanted; may he, endowed with wealth, accept us favourably.”

Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya

May he sing the accompaniment: i.e., let him actas prastotā and upagatā; cf. Aitareya Brāhmaṇa 3.23; 7.1 for a description of the functions of theseassistants at a sāman
