Rig Veda 8.73.11
Sanskrit text [Accents, Plain, Transliterated]:
किमि॒दं वां॑ पुराण॒वज्जर॑तोरिव शस्यते । अन्ति॒ षद्भू॑तु वा॒मव॑: ॥
किमिदं वां पुराणवज्जरतोरिव शस्यते । अन्ति षद्भूतु वामवः ॥
kim idaṃ vām purāṇavaj jarator iva śasyate | anti ṣad bhūtu vām avaḥ ||
English translation:
“Why is this (repeated invocation) addressed to you as if you were decrepit like old men? Let yourprotection abide near me.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
As if you were decrepit: as we see in the world that an old ma does not come, thoughoften called, so too is it with you
