Rig Veda 8.24.28
Sanskrit text [Accents, Plain, Transliterated]:
यथा॑ वरो सु॒षाम्णे॑ स॒निभ्य॒ आव॑हो र॒यिम् । व्य॑श्वेभ्यः सुभगे वाजिनीवति ॥
यथा वरो सुषाम्णे सनिभ्य आवहो रयिम् । व्यश्वेभ्यः सुभगे वाजिनीवति ॥
yathā varo suṣāmṇe sanibhya āvaho rayim | vyaśvebhyaḥ subhage vājinīvati ||
English translation:
“As you, Varu, have distributed vast wealth to those who have solicited (riches) on behalf of Susāman,(so do you now distribute) to the descendants of Vyaśva; (and so too you), auspicious food-bestowing (Uṣas).”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
On behalf of Suṣāman: Varu is said to have distributed these alms that his father, Suṣāman, might go toheaven;
Uṣas: subhage vājinīvati: Uṣas is added, on the authority of Śaunaka; or, Varu himself addressedthe stanza to Uṣas and asks her to give him wealth for the sons of Vyaśva, as she had given to his father for hissuppliants
