याः प्र॒वतो॑ नि॒वत॑ उ॒द्वत॑ उद॒न्वती॑रनुद॒काश्च॒ याः । ता अ॒स्मभ्यं॒ पय॑सा॒ पिन्व॑मानाः शि॒वा दे॒वीर॑शिप॒दा भ॑वन्तु॒ सर्वा॑ न॒द्यो॑ अशिमि॒दा भ॑वन्तु ॥
याः प्रवतो निवत उद्वत उदन्वतीरनुदकाश्च याः । ता अस्मभ्यं पयसा पिन्वमानाः शिवा देवीरशिपदा भवन्तु सर्वा नद्यो अशिमिदा भवन्तु ॥
yāḥ pravato nivata udvata udanvatīr anudakāś ca yāḥ | tā asmabhyam payasā pinvamānāḥ śivā devīr aśipadā bhavantu sarvā nadyo aśimidā bhavantu ||
English translation:
“May the divine rivers, whether flowing down declivities, in hollow plural ces, or upwards, whether filled withwater or dry, nourishing all with their water, be auspicious to us communicating not disease; may all the rivers beunproductive of harm.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
Communicating not disease: aśipadā bhavantu: name of a malady; may they beunproductive of the śipada complaint; unproductive of harm: aśimidā bhavantu: śimi = vadha, killing; ahiṃsaprada, not doing harm or injury
