उपे॑मसृक्षि वाज॒युर्व॑च॒स्यां चनो॑ दधीत ना॒द्यो गिरो॑ मे । अ॒पां नपा॑दाशु॒हेमा॑ कु॒वित्स सु॒पेश॑सस्करति॒ जोषि॑ष॒द्धि ॥
उपेमसृक्षि वाजयुर्वचस्यां चनो दधीत नाद्यो गिरो मे । अपां नपादाशुहेमा कुवित्स सुपेशसस्करति जोषिषद्धि ॥
upem asṛkṣi vājayur vacasyāṃ cano dadhīta nādyo giro me | apāṃ napād āśuhemā kuvit sa supeśasas karati joṣiṣad dhi ||
English translation:
“Desiring food, I put forth this laudatory hymn; may the sounding and swift-moving grandson of the waters bestow abundant food upon me his worshipper; may he make us of goodly appearance, for verily he is propitiated by praise.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
Grandson of the waters: apām napāt, the son of the trees or fuel which are the progeny of the rains; a different etymology makes the term an epithet of the sun
