आ यो वि॒वाय॑ स॒चथा॑य॒ दैव्य॒ इन्द्रा॑य॒ विष्णु॑: सु॒कृते॑ सु॒कृत्त॑रः । वे॒धा अ॑जिन्वत्त्रिषध॒स्थ आर्य॑मृ॒तस्य॑ भा॒गे यज॑मान॒माभ॑जत् ॥
आ यो विवाय सचथाय दैव्य इन्द्राय विष्णुः सुकृते सुकृत्तरः । वेधा अजिन्वत्त्रिषधस्थ आर्यमृतस्य भागे यजमानमाभजत् ॥
ā yo vivāya sacathāya daivya indrāya viṣṇuḥ sukṛte sukṛttaraḥ | vedhā ajinvat triṣadhastha āryam ṛtasya bhāge yajamānam ābhajat ||
English translation:
“The divine Viṣṇu, the best of the doers of good deeds, who came to the pious instrumental tutor of the rite, to assist (at its celebration), knowing (the desire of the worshipper), and present at the three connected periods (of worship), shows favour to te Arya, and admits the author if the ceremony to a share of the sacrifice.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
Who came: sacathāya indrāya: 1. giving assistance at the ceremony; 2. to the yajamāna, or sacrificer (indra = irām drāvayati, who pours out the sacrificial food or oblation (indra irām dṛṇātīti idaṃkaraṇādityāgrāyaṇaḥ (Nirukta 10.8); the three connected periods: triṣadhastham; allusion is to the three daily celebrations of worship, or to the three worlds; share of the sacrifice: ṛtasya bhāge = share that follows the rite; the blessings granted as a reward
