निश्चर्म॑ण ऋभवो॒ गाम॑पिंशत॒ सं व॒त्सेना॑सृजता मा॒तरं॒ पुन॑: । सौध॑न्वनासः स्वप॒स्यया॑ नरो॒ जिव्री॒ युवा॑ना पि॒तरा॑कृणोतन ॥
निश्चर्मण ऋभवो गामपिंशत सं वत्सेनासृजता मातरं पुनः । सौधन्वनासः स्वपस्यया नरो जिव्री युवाना पितराकृणोतन ॥
niś carmaṇa ṛbhavo gām apiṃśata saṃ vatsenāsṛjatā mātaram punaḥ | saudhanvanāsaḥ svapasyayā naro jivrī yuvānā pitarākṛṇotana ||
English translation:
“Ṛbhus, you covered the cow with a hide, and reunited themother with the calf; sons of Sudhanvan, leaders (of sacrifice), through your good works you rendered your aged parents young.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
Legend: a ṛṣi, whose cow had died, leaving a calf prayed to the ṛbhus for assistance, on which, they formed a living cow, and covered it with the skin of the dead one, from which the calf imagined it to be its own mother
