मधु॑मन्तं तनूनपाद्य॒ज्ञं दे॒वेषु॑ नः कवे । अ॒द्या कृ॑णुहि वी॒तये॑ ॥
मधुमन्तं तनूनपाद्यज्ञं देवेषु नः कवे । अद्या कृणुहि वीतये ॥
madhumantaṃ tanūnapād yajñaṃ deveṣu naḥ kave | adyā kṛṇuhi vītaye ||
English translation:
“Wise (Agni) who are Tanūnapāt (= devourer of clarified butter), present this day our well-favoured sacrifice to the gods for their food.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
Tanūnapāt, deourer of clarified butter (tanūnapa); alternatively, tanu = own substance, or fuel, i.e. consumer of its own substance;
Napāt = tanaya, son or offspring; alternatively, napāt = who does not preserve, who destroys
