Part 8 - Treatment of Piles (7): Mahodaya-pratyayasa rasa

Twelve tolas of sulphur, extracted from kajjali or black sulphate of mercury; one tola, each, of incinerated mercury, mica, copper, and iron; four tolas of cinnabar, twelve tolas of copper-pyrites, four tolas of kampilla and two tola s of aconite are to be rubbed together for seven days, with lime water, made into a lump, and dried in the sun for a week. This lump is then to be coated all over with a paste, one anguli thick, prepared from an equal quantity of molasses, lime, and realger. In a crucible, put twelve tola s of powdered sulphur, upon which the lump is to be kept, covered with twelve tolas of powdered orpiment. Then, close the mouth of the crucible very carfully, It is next to be heated by gajaputa. When cooled by radiation of heat, the contents of the crucible are to be taken out, powdered and subjected to bhavana, for seven times, with the juice of nuxvomica. When dried in the sun, the substance is to be mixed with one thirtieth its quantity of incinerated vaikranta (garnet). This medicine cures all sorts of piles, phthisis, leprosy, indigestion, colic, flatulence, cough, asthma, insanity, apoplexy, all sorts of diseases due to an excess of va yu, ail sorts of malignant fever all sorts of diseases due to an excess of vayu, and kapha, and chronic diarrhoea of long standing.
