This Sanskrit edition of the Moksopaya. It is a large philosophical text dealing with “the science of liberation”. Similar to the Yoga-vasistha in content, the Mokshopaya-shastra was likely its predecessor, said to contain 30,000 shlokas (metrical verses). One of the core philosophies of the texts teaches the non-existence of cognitive objects; while holding such a view leads to an attitude of dispassion towards worldly matters.

चित्ताभावप्रतिपादनं नाम सर्गः ।
द्वाविंशत्युत्तरशततमः सर्गः ।
वसिष्ठः ।
प्रथमं जातमात्रेणैव पुंसा किञ्चिद्विकचितबुद्धिनैव सत्सङ्गमपरेण भवितव्यम् । अनवरतप्रवाहापतितोऽयमविद्यानदीनिवहश्शमशास्त्रसज्जनसम्पर्कादृते तरितुं न शक्यते । तेन विवेकवतः पुरुषस्य हेयोपादेयविचार उत्पद्यते । तेनासौ शुभेच्छाभिधानां विवेकभुवमापतितो भवति । ततो विवेकवशतो विचारणया सम्यग्ज्ञानेनासम्यग्वासनां त्यजतः संसारवासनातो मनस्तनुतामेति । तेन तनुमानसीं नाम विवेकभूमिमवतीर्णो भवति । यदैव योगिनः सम्यग्ज्ञानोदयस्तदैव सत्त्वापत्तिः ।
तद्वशाद्वासना तनुतां गता यदा तदैवासावसक्त इत्युच्यते । कर्मफलेन न बध्यत इति ॥ १ ॥
