दशसूनासमं चक्रं दशचक्रसमो ध्वजः ।
दशध्वजसमो वेशो दशवेशसमो नृपः ॥ ८५ ॥daśasūnāsamaṃ cakraṃ daśacakrasamo dhvajaḥ |
daśadhvajasamo veśo daśaveśasamo nṛpaḥ || 85 ||One oil-press is equal to ten slaughter-houses; one grog-shop is equal to ten oil-presses; one brothel is equal to ten grog-shops; and one king is equal to ten brothels.—(85)
Medhātithi’s commentary (manubhāṣya):
This is meant to show that the receiving of gifts from the one mentioned later is more reprehensible than that from the one mentioned before it.
As for the means of subsistence during abnormal times, this shall be described later on.—(85)
