grīṣme pañcatapās tu syād varṣāsv abhrāvakāśikaḥ |
ārdravāsās tu hemante kramaśo vardhayaṃs tapaḥ || Verse 6.23 ||
Medhātithi Manubhāṣya
pañcabhir ātmānaṃ tāpayet | catasṛṣu dikṣu agnīnt saṃnidhāpya madhye tiṣṭhed upariṣṭād ādityatāpaṃ seveta | prāvṛṣy abhrāṇy evāvakāśa āśrayaḥ, yasmin deśe devo varṣati taṃ pradeśam āśrayed varṣanivāraṇārthaṃ chatravastrādi na gṛhṇīyāt | hemante śītopalakṣaṇārtham | etena śiśire'py eṣa eva vidhiḥ ārdravāsastvam | kramaśaḥ krameṇa || 6.23 ||
