Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तस्मिंस्तु दिवसे प्राप्ते दशमे भरतर्षभ ।
भीष्मेणैकेन मत्स्येषु पाञ्चालेषु च संयुगे ।
गजाश्वममितं हत्वा हताः सप्त महारथाः ॥ २१ ॥
