Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. समयस्तु कृतः कश्चिद्भीष्मेण मम माधव ।
मन्त्रयिष्ये तवार्थाय न तु योत्स्ये कथंचन ।
दुर्योधनार्थे योत्स्यामि सत्यमेतदिति प्रभो ॥ ४४ ॥

samayastu kṛtaḥ kaścidbhīṣmeṇa mama mādhava |
mantrayiṣye tavārthāya na tu yotsye kathaṃcana |
duryodhanārthe yotsyāmi satyametaditi prabho || 44 ||
