Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. निपेतुराजौ रुधिरप्रदिग्धास्ते ताडिताः शक्रसुतेन राजन् ।
विभिन्नगात्राः पतितोत्तमाङ्गा गतासवश्छिन्नतनुत्रकायाः ॥ ३ ॥

nipeturājau rudhirapradigdhāste tāḍitāḥ śakrasutena rājan |
vibhinnagātrāḥ patitottamāṅgā gatāsavaśchinnatanutrakāyāḥ || 3 ||
