Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

एते तु रौद्रा बहवो महारथा यशस्विनः शूरतमाः कृतास्त्राः ।
ये पाण्डवानां समरे सहाया जितक्लमाः क्रोधविषं वमन्ति ॥ ९ ॥

ete tu raudrā bahavo mahārathā yaśasvinaḥ śūratamāḥ kṛtāstrāḥ |
ye pāṇḍavānāṃ samare sahāyā jitaklamāḥ krodhaviṣaṃ vamanti || 9 ||
