Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तस्मिन्सुघोरे नृपसंप्रहारे हताः प्रवीराः सरथाः ससूताः ।
गजाश्च नाराचनिपाततप्ता महापताकाः शुभरुक्मकक्ष्याः ॥ ११७ ॥

tasminsughore nṛpasaṃprahāre hatāḥ pravīrāḥ sarathāḥ sasūtāḥ |
gajāśca nārācanipātataptā mahāpatākāḥ śubharukmakakṣyāḥ || 117 ||
