Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. सादितध्वजनागास्तु हताश्वा रथिनो भृशम् ।
विप्रद्रुतरथाः केचिद्दृश्यन्ते रथयूथपाः ॥ २३ ॥

sāditadhvajanāgāstu hatāśvā rathino bhṛśam |
vipradrutarathāḥ keciddṛśyante rathayūthapāḥ || 23 ||
