Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. मत्कृते भ्रातृसौहार्दाद्राज्याद्भ्रष्टास्तथा सुखात् ।
जीवितं बहु मन्येऽहं जीवितं ह्यद्य दुर्लभम् ॥ १३ ॥
