Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. वीर्यशुल्काश्च ता ज्ञात्वा समारोप्य रथं तदा ।
अवोचं पार्थिवान्सर्वानहं तत्र समागतान् ।
भीष्मः शांतनवः कन्या हरतीति पुनः पुनः ॥ १३ ॥
