Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. एवं ये कुशलं शूरं हिते स्थितमकल्मषम् ।
सेनापतिं प्रकुर्वन्ति ते जयन्ति रणे रिपून् ॥ १० ॥

senāpatiṃ prakurvanti te jayanti raṇe ripūn || 10 ||
