Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. राज्यं वाप्युग्रविभ्रंशं संशयो जीवितस्य वा ।
प्रलब्धस्य हि शत्रोर्वै शेषं कुर्वन्ति साधवः ॥ २८ ॥

rājyaṃ vāpyugravibhraṃśaṃ saṃśayo jīvitasya vā |
pralabdhasya hi śatrorvai śeṣaṃ kurvanti sādhavaḥ || 28 ||
