Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. वैडूर्याङ्कुरकल्पानि मृदूनि हरितानि च ।
चरन्ती शष्पमुख्यानि तिक्तानि मधुराणि च ॥ ८ ॥

vaiḍūryāṅkurakalpāni mṛdūni haritāni ca |
carantī śaṣpamukhyāni tiktāni madhurāṇi ca || 8 ||
