Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. गालवस्त्वभ्यनुज्ञाय सुपर्णं पन्नगाशनम् ।
पितुर्निर्यात्य तां कन्यां प्रययौ वनमेव ह ॥ २३ ॥

gālavastvabhyanujñāya suparṇaṃ pannagāśanam |
piturniryātya tāṃ kanyāṃ prayayau vanameva ha || 23 ||
