Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अभिवाद्य सुपर्णस्तु गालवश्चाभिपूज्य ताम् ।
तया च स्वागतेनोक्तौ विष्टरे संनिषीदतुः ॥ २ ॥

tayā ca svāgatenoktau viṣṭare saṃniṣīdatuḥ || 2 ||
