Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. महाभये वीतभयः कृतास्त्रः समागमे शत्रुबलावमर्दी ।
सकृद्रथेन प्रतियाद्रथौघान्पदातिसंघान्गदयाभिनिघ्नन् ॥ १६ ॥

mahābhaye vītabhayaḥ kṛtāstraḥ samāgame śatrubalāvamardī |
sakṛdrathena pratiyādrathaughānpadātisaṃghāngadayābhinighnan || 16 ||
