Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. श्रेयांस्तस्माद्यदि विद्येत कश्चिदभिज्ञातः सर्वधर्मोपपन्नः ।
स तं दुष्टमनुशिष्यात्प्रजानन्न चेद्गृध्येदिति तस्मिन्न साधु ॥ २६ ॥

śreyāṃstasmādyadi vidyeta kaścidabhijñātaḥ sarvadharmopapannaḥ |
sa taṃ duṣṭamanuśiṣyātprajānanna cedgṛdhyediti tasminna sādhu || 26 ||
