Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. नाधर्मे ते धीयते पार्थ बुद्धिर्न संरम्भात्कर्म चकर्थ पापम् ।
अद्धा किं तत्कारणं यस्य हेतोः प्रज्ञाविरुद्धं कर्म चिकीर्षसीदम् ॥ २२ ॥

nādharme te dhīyate pārtha buddhirna saṃrambhātkarma cakartha pāpam |
addhā kiṃ tatkāraṇaṃ yasya hetoḥ prajñāviruddhaṃ karma cikīrṣasīdam || 22 ||
