Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अपूर्वं वाहनमिदं त्वयोक्तं वरवर्णिनि ।
दृढं मे रुचितं देवि त्वद्वशोऽस्मि वरानने ॥ १५ ॥

apūrvaṃ vāhanamidaṃ tvayoktaṃ varavarṇini |
dṛḍhaṃ me rucitaṃ devi tvadvaśo'smi varānane || 15 ||
