Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. युष्मासु ध्रियमाणेषु दुःखानि विविधान्युत ।
शोषयन्ति शरीरं मे किं नु दुःखमतः परम् ॥ ३६ ॥

yuṣmāsu dhriyamāṇeṣu duḥkhāni vividhānyuta |
śoṣayanti śarīraṃ me kiṃ nu duḥkhamataḥ param || 36 ||
