Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. वृद्धो ह्यहं वै परिहारकामः सर्वान्मत्स्यांस्तरसा पालयस्व ।
नैवंविधाः क्लीबरूपा भवन्ति कथंचनेति प्रतिभाति मे मनः ॥ ७ ॥

vṛddho hyahaṃ vai parihārakāmaḥ sarvānmatsyāṃstarasā pālayasva |
naivaṃvidhāḥ klībarūpā bhavanti kathaṃcaneti pratibhāti me manaḥ || 7 ||
