Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

अदृष्टपूर्वः पुरुषो रविर्यथा वितर्कयन्नास्य लभामि संपदम् ।
तथास्य चित्तं ह्यपि संवितर्कयन्नरर्षभस्याद्य न यामि तत्त्वतः ॥ ४ ॥

adṛṣṭapūrvaḥ puruṣo raviryathā vitarkayannāsya labhāmi saṃpadam |
tathāsya cittaṃ hyapi saṃvitarkayannararṣabhasyādya na yāmi tattvataḥ || 4 ||
